Prediction of ring crack initiation in ceramics and glasses using a stress–energy fracture criterion

چکیده
Crack initiation in brittle materials upon spherical indentation is associated with the tensile radial stresses during loading. However, location of crack onset often differs (offset) from site maximal stress. In addition, experiments reveal a strong dependency forces on geometrical parameters as well surface condition sample. this work, coupled stress–energy fracture criterion introduced to describe ring cracks materials, which takes into account geometry contact and inherent strength toughness material. Several reported literature are evaluated compared. The can explain offset loading, observed various ceramics glasses. It also predicts force provided that compressive stresses, grinding or polishing processes, taken account. Furthermore, may be employed estimate residual stress ceramic parts, based simple damage experiments.

Multiscale behavior of crack initiation and growth in piezoelectric ceramics
The multiscale nature of cracking in ferroelectric ceramics is explored in relation to the crack growth enhancement and retardation behavior when the direction of applied electric ®eld is reversed with reference to that of poling. An a priori knowledge of the prevailing fracture behavior is invoked for the energy dissipated in exchange of the macroand micro-crack surface. To avoid the formalism...
متن کاملPrediction of Crack Initiation Direction for Inclined Crack Under Biaxial Loading by Finite Element Method
This paper presents a simple method based on strain energy density criterion to study the crack initiation angle by finite element method under biaxial loading condition. The crack surface relative displacement method is used to eliminate the calculation of the stress intensity factors which are normally required. The analysis is performed using higher order four node quadrilateral element. The...
متن کاملA Plasticity Criterion for Mixed Mode Fracture Initiation with Crack Surface Frictional Characteristics Under Compression
A new plasticity criterion for mixed mode crack initiation angles under compression is presented, based on the characteristics of the plastic core region surrounding the crack tip with crack surface friction. The shape and size of the plastic core region were thoroughly analyzed under compression and the non-dimensional variable radius of the plastic core region for mixed mode compressive fract...

Finite Element Modeling of Crack Initiation Angle Under Mixed Mode (I/II) Fracture
Present study deals with the prediction of crack initiation angle for mixed mode (I/II) fracture using finite element techniques and J-Integral based approach. The FE code ANSYS is used to estimate the stress intensity factor numerically. The estimated values of SIF were incorporated into six different crack initiation angle criteria to predict the crack initiation angle. Single edge crack spec...
